"Ex"-scientist quasi-engineer, turned full-time momma to three who recently finished a spiritual coaching certification. Loves reading, writing, hiking, camping, sewing, horsing around, learning new things, and anything mountainous, oceanic, or in between. Life is good, ALL the time!

Vice President

My name is Leah Hickler. I was born and raised in Durango, Colorado with my two younger brothers. When I was 21, I moved to Denver where I met and married the love of my life. We now have three children (Colton - 8, Caelee - 5, and Cora - 2) and two Maltese puppies. Our family loves crafty indoor activities and being outside as much as possible hiking, swimming, walking, running, biking, climbing, paddle boarding, yoga, snowboarding, and gardening. I choose a vegan lifestyle because I love animals, our environment, and our earth. We love Mountain Phoenix and have been very active at the school since the Wheat Ridge location opened.

Treasurer

I’ve been a parent at MPCS for five years now. I have two boys, Max, in third grade, and Jack, in first grade. And I’m looking forward to the next 8 years at the school.

I’ve worked for 18 years with an environmental and consumer non-profit group. I worked for three years in their financial department and for 12 years in the membership department. I think there are several similarities between running a non-profit and working with a school. And I hope my experience and attention to detail will help us make this school a special place for our kids, our teachers, and our community.

My hobbies include hiking, running, and making beer! We have a puppy and six chickens that keep us all busy!

Member at Large

Sarah Spica loves being a Mountain Phoenix mom and learning more about the vast insight in Waldorf pedagogy. Originally from a small, rural town in Michigan, she attended college for art in Pittsburgh and finally landed in Denver in 2001, where she found a new and lasting love in horticulture and landscaping. She also enjoys cooking and talking long hikes with friends and family. Sarah is looking forward to serving the community through Parent Council and the Gardening committee this year.
