I began my career as a teacher in 1998, when I began working at my daughter’s day care center. At that time, I was a part-time student in the teacher program at Metropolitan State College, while working part-time at the Auraria Childcare Center. I left the program after attending for a year, to work as a customer service representative for Farmer’s Insurance Company. My love for children brought me back into the childcare field, and I began working in various childcare centers around the city. During this time, I found that I was drawn to helping children with disabilities, and began working at Denver Children’s Home, a psychological treatment center for emotionally disturbed children, in the summer of 2001. It was there that I found my passion for helping children who have been abused and neglected. After gaining valuable experience at this reputable agency, I found a teaching position in the Emotionally Disabled Center at Gove Middle School, an inner city school in the Denver Public School District. A year later, I began the Special Education teacher licensing program at Metropolitan State College and received my Colorado Special Education teacher license in May, 2005. Since that time, I have worked as a Special Education teacher in various schools within the Denver Public School District, the Sheridan Public School District, and now Jefferson County School District, at the Mountain Phoenix Community School. I look forward to an exciting year as I, along with my colleagues, bring the creative Waldorf curricum to our school’s children, in the first public Waldorf School in Colorado!
