GC Meeting Summary – July 2015
In an effort to inform the community of Governing Council activities, the Council will begin sending a Meeting Summary shortly after regularly scheduled meetings. Full minutes will continue to be available on the school website within 60 days.
Governing Council Officers Selected
July is the first month of the fiscal school year and marks the beginning of office for Council members. It is also the time the Council selects its officers for the upcoming year. For the 2015-16 school year the Council has selected the following members to serve as officers:
- Jeff Wilhite, President
- Nathan Ballenger, Vice President
- Rich Peters, Treasurer
- Gina Schley, Secretary
- Members-at-Large include Julian Tonsmeire, Nicole Dominic, and Kyle Schurter.
This month the Council approved three school policies that have been worked on collaboratively by the Policy Task Force, which is made up of parents, educators, and administrators. Please make yourself familiar with these new policies:

- Governing Council Communication Policy
360 Evaluation of the GC
A 360 Evaluation of the Council’s performance over the 2013-14 school year was conducted in May. The evaluation was sent to 26 members of the community including; District Partners, Administrators, Faculty Representatives, Parent Council board members, MPCS Foundation board members, and Governing Council members. Twenty people completed the survey and the results were presented to the public. The Council will be discussing performance gaps and making plans for improvement at their Annual Retreat. Committee Charter Proposals
Two committee charters were presented and approved by the Council. The first was a standing Strategic Planning Committee which will assist the Council in tracking the progress of school goals set forth by the Council. The second was an ad-hoc committee to continue researching the feasibility of a high school.
Meet & Greet for Faculty & Staff
The Council will be holding a Welcome Meet & Greet for faculty and staff in early September. More details will become available as they are confirmed. The date coincides with the Council’s Annual Retreat where they review the Strategic Plan and set goals for the school.
Report from the Director of Education
The Director of Education, Ms. Morrow, has transitioned into her new role and gave a report of the many activities that happened over the summer to prepare for a successful school year. She also brought forth revised job descriptions for the Asst. Director of Education, the ECE Licensing Director, and the Faculty Support Coordinator. All brought clarity to the roles and were approved by the Council. They also approved the following school calendar revisions requested by Ms. Morrow:
- February conference will be moved to Feb 16-19
- Additional school day added on May 26
- Teacher in-service days added from May 30-June 2
- Medieval games taken off the calendar but activities remain but dates are not officially posted
- May Faire moved to Friday, May 6
Report from the Director of Operations
The Director of Operations, Mr. Angevine, shared a letter from the Kathleen Askelson, Jeffco Public Schools CFO, officially acknowledging the early closure of the $250,000 approved loan. The letter stated, “I appreciate the commitment the school has made to financial stability, and I am pleased the district could be a partner in this outcome. Congratulations on the work you have done and the success of your school.” Mr. Angevine also updated the Council on the progress of the Middle School second floor build out. Construction is going well and on schedule to be completed by the first week of August.
Meeting Time for the 2015-2016 School Year
The Council selected the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. to hold regularly scheduled meetings for 2015-2016 school year. Please note the time change from previous years. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.
