Jazz and Friends Evening Storytime (February 27th)

Jazz and Friends Evening Storytime (February 27th)

In support of our MPCS Mission Statement, the Diversity + Inclusivity Committee is excited to announce our 3rd Annual Jazz & Friends Storytime on February 27th.  Our goal is to offer learning and conversation opportunities to both staff and families in order to cultivate an inclusive and affirming community. Working in conjunction with JeffCo’s Student Engagement Office, one of the lenses through which we look at diversity within our community is gender. Therefore, this year as we participate in the Human Rights Campaign’s national reading event, we will be organizing two different programs that center storytimes which focus on themes of self-love, respect, gender identity and self-expression.

During the school day program, all classes will be reading or telling stories that their teachers have selected for this day of reading & celebration. Books and stories are age-appropriate and classroom teachers will be guiding thoughtful conversation around the concept of being kind, accepting differences and celebrating our unique selves. In order to support conversations at home and to better familiarize yourself (or others) with these stories, we will be posting a book list w/ summaries and links soon with all of the different books being read on campus that day.

For our evening program, we will welcome once again Second Star to the Right who will be reading the stories as well as selling books, many of which were being read during the school day. This year, we will be reading the inspiring stories: I Am Jazz, Julian Is A Mermaid, and They He She, Easy As ABC. This program is for all ages and families. Like last year, we will have the storytime at the beginning and then the children will go to a separate space for supervised play and crafts while the adults have a chance to engage in conversation with a professional panel.

MPCS Families: Please RSVP to this event on ParentSquare.
