Sra Cahoone is pleased to announce our first Pulsera Sale (woven bracelet sale) at Mountain Phoenix Community School. This event will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 8:10 a.m., during lunch recess and after school from 3:20 to 3:50 during the first two weeks of April (April 3-14.) The sale will be run and operated by the 6th grades. Please look for our colorful table set up outside the Great Hall!
The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that began in 2009 when a group of friends traveling in Central America discovered a community of artists in the foothills of Nicaragua. Since then, students and teachers in hundreds of school communities have sold pulseras made by 200 artists in the community, expanding into Guatemala as well. These sales have created sustainable fair trade jobs in a country where few such opportunities exist. Proceeds also fund scholarships, community programs, worker’s rights campaigns, shelter support, sustainable energy initiatives, and many other projects.
Students in the middle school will be watching some Spanish videos about the artists and the project with a look into poverty and solutions.
